Evaluation Questions 6
Evaluation Question 6
‘What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?’
In the making of our film we used a variety of different
technologies whether it is hardware or software we used them to their fullest
in editing or just filming. In our genre we mainly focused on the editing side
of our film because in order to keep the fast paced action we needed to spend
more time on the editing so it felt right as we were watching.
To research around the chosen genre we use Google to get
basic information about how other action films do in the box office and also
which distribute the same types of films we’re making this helped with picking
our one.
For the research into other films in our genre we used
YouTube mainly to find trailers of clips of films and other AS film openings that
have inspired our film and the design decisions we made. This helped because we
were able to see what a good trailer looks like and we took tips on how to
craft ours to use some of these features in ours. But also looking at the bad
ones we can’t see why theirs didn’t do so well and hopeful make the same mistake
To document all the work we have done we used an online
program called Blogger that allowed us to write out the work we have done. The
types of things we have put onto blogger are the different ideas we have had
and the interviews we did on our target audience and Editing and filming
updates as we did them. I had very little issues with blogger and found it very
useful when I have needed to change or update different documents

In combination with blogger we used Prezi a presentation creator
but much more unique than just the standard Microsoft Power point. This program
enabled us to create nice looking presentation when we were doing pieces of
work such as. The different conventions seen in the action films we have
watched. But with this program I did have some issues connecting and sometimes
my work not save and I would how to redo some large parts of my work.

We also used slide share this was used to change standard
text documents to nice looking and easier to embed into blogger. We used this on different things mainly to do
with the preparation of our film opening like the shot lists
Evaluation Question 5
Evaluation 5- How
did you attract/address your audience?
In order to attract our target
audience we interviewed several members of from our target audiences and
interviewed each one of them to get an insight into how they want a new film
from that genre to be like and include.
The first person we interviewed
was Chris Higgins as he was part of our secondary target audience demographic
of males under the age of 35, and he is a fan of the action genre so he had
some interesting ideas and answers to our questions. The questions we asked him
were
‘Why does he like action films?’ Next
we asked What was his favourite action film was, he told us that he particularly
enjoyed action films like The Bourne Identity because of the 'interesting story
line about the goings on secretly within the government', as well as the acting
by the lead character 'Matt Damon'.
‘What aspects of action films
entice you to watch them?’ he responded with that he enjoys long action packed
car chases, gunshots and overall the good guys overcome the bad guys in the end.
‘Do you find the stereotypical
role of women in action films e.g. damsel in distress a bad thing’ he feels
that having this in a film kind of detracts from the overall feel of the film
as a whole but he does like that it adds an extra dynamic of a love interest for
the hero to pursue
‘What would you like to see in
action films that you haven’t seen before?’ He went on to say he would like to
see a ‘mash up’ of two action franchises for example James bond and Jason borne
because he feel people would want and it would be a nice combination and how
the film would go about presenting the story
We spoke to Paul Cutts as he was
part of our primary target audience demographic of males above the age of 35,
He was a good choice to interview as is a fan of some of the older, classic
actions films
‘What was your favourite film and
why’ ‘Speed’ he responded, he liked how
the plot was thick and 'they got a lot out of the concept' he said he enjoys
the 'explosions and adrenaline pumping car chases'.
‘Do you find the stereotypical
role of women in action films e.g. damsel in distress a bad thing’ he said he
didn’t like the use of dominant male characters and saving a 'damsel in
distress' character can detract from the film as it’s a very traditional story
feature, and he likes 'Speed' as it challenges this by the female character
doing the hard job.
‘What would you like to see in an
action film you have not seen before?’ He responded that he would like to see
an action film that was set ferther in the past but with a female actress
taking the lead role
Evaluation Question 4
In this task we need to 'Who would be the audience for your media product?' I will be looking at different information supplied by the UK Film council. The different Factors we will need to look at when considering target audiences. Demographics, Psychographics, whether its Mainstream or niche and finally the Primary and Secondary audiences
Our film is aimed at teenagers and young males under 35's we have chosen to target this age group so we are able to have a more mature storyline and scenes. Having the fast paced action scene will appeal to this to the adrenalin fuelled youth of today. We have chosen this because from the graphs and charts from UK Film Council these have given the figures of what kinds of people that go and watch the different types of genres

From this survey we can see that action and Thriller and action are in the top most liked to watch. From this we can see that they are popular genre's and we have a large target audience to be aiming for this allows it appeal to more people. Rather than if will chose a more niche genre like 'Bollywood' who has a less populated following.

Evaluation Question 3
The question that will be answered in this is 'What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?'

If we were to complete our film we would need a film distributor. I feel that our film would do better if we went with a larger company like warner bros or 20th centaury fox. We have chosen to go with a large one because our genre is very popular so we need a well known distributor to be able to get our film to all the possible viewers to see it.
We have chosen to use 20th Centaury Fox because it is a household name so it will be instantly recognisable with all audiences so this will give our film added notoriety

There are some examples of relatively low budget films that have become major successes for example Paranormal Activity that is a horror ghost story it only spent $15,000 creating the film and made over $193 million at the box office. Other examples could also include Napoleon Dynamite this strange comedy was higher at $400,000 in production cost and made in total £44 million
A film distributor is a company or individual responsible
for the marketing of a film. They also set the release date of a film and the
method of how the film will be made available and viewed by the public. The
distributor may do this directly if they own the theatres. A limited
distributor may only deal with products like DVD and Blu-rays. Often feature
films have different distributors representing them in different territories
and different distributors handling the home-viewing circulation. Independent
film distribution in the UK is generally managed by indie distributors such as
Metrodome, Optimum Releasing and Momentum.
