Evaluation Question 3

The question that will be answered in this is  'What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?'

A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. They also set the release date of a film and the method of how the film will be made available and viewed by the public. The distributor may do this directly if they own the theatres. A limited distributor may only deal with products like DVD and Blu-rays. Often feature films have different distributors representing them in different territories and different distributors handling the home-viewing circulation. Independent film distribution in the UK is generally managed by indie distributors such as Metrodome, Optimum Releasing and Momentum.

If we were to complete our film we would need a film distributor. I feel that our film would do better if we went with a larger company like warner bros or 20th centaury fox. We have chosen to go with a large one because our genre is very popular so we need a well known distributor to be able to get our film to all the possible viewers to see it.

We have chosen to use 20th Centaury Fox because it is a household name so it will be instantly recognisable with all audiences so this will give our film added notoriety

There are some examples of relatively low budget films that have become major successes for example Paranormal Activity that is a horror ghost story it only spent $15,000 creating the film and made over $193 million at the box office. Other examples could also include Napoleon Dynamite this strange comedy was higher at $400,000 in production cost and made in total £44 million
