Film Opening Ideas

The first idea is a Crime/Action called Fed-Ex-ecution about a unknown criminal who dons different outfits and persuades his way into peoples houses and then dispatches them. the story will follow both sides the police and even the killer which is quite uncommon in todays films and this genre. we will have to create large amounts of enigma to keep the suspense going throughout the film. most of the film will be filmed later at night to get the darker shots needed for the thriller feel.

My idea is of a Action film with Sci-Fi elements is of Being from other worlds have been entering our through mysterious lights crossing the sky but instead of showing hospitality and all-out lock down of earth has commenced and all the worlds army's have combined to form a united front against the 'Aliens' but instead of being a guns blazing film you see it from their perspective and how they are forced to leave their home worlds in order to survive and have to blend with the general public and deal day to day life and the xenophobic attitudes of the of the times public

Target Audence Interviews

We spoke to Chris Higgins as he was part of our secondary target audience demographic of males under the age of 35, and he is a fan of the action genre so he had some interesting ideas and answers to our questions. He told us that he particularly enjoyed action films like The Bourne Identity because of the 'interesting story line about the goings on secretly within the government', as well as the acting by the lead character 'Matt Damon'.

We spoke to Paul Cutts as he was part of our primary target audience demographic of males above the age of 35, He was a good choice to interview as is a fan of some of the older, classic actions films such as 'Speed', he liked how the plot was thick and 'they got a lot out of the concept' he said he enjoys the 'explosions and adrenaline pumping car chases'. He also mentioned a very interesting view on how action films that use the dominant male character and saves a 'damsel in distress' character can detract from the film as its a very traditional story feature, and he likes 'Speed' as it challenges this by the female character doing the hard job.

Box Office Data for Genre

From this picture we can see that action films have there place firmly placed in the top five favourite films of all time the film in question is 'Batman The Dark Knight'.This film has achieved  over $1 billion in revenue worldwide, it is the 17th-highest-grossing film of all time,The film received eight Academy Award nominations; it won the award for Best Sound Editing and Heath Ledger was awarded Best Supporting Actor. From this we can take that there is a large audience willing to pay for a high quality action film if one was to be created

From this we can see that within the top 20 action takes up a large portion of the films this shows us that people action films make a lot of  money for example Avatar cost 237 million dollars in production cost but has made 2.7 billion dollars  this shows me people are willing to fund action films and the return on them  usually large as can be seen by the information below.

Avengers Assemble (2012)
This film took the much loved comic book series and

Analysis of Demographic

We looked at audience research carried out by UK Film Council to Identify our target demographic. My group has picked the genres Sci-fi crossed with action. The reason why we have done this is because these genres are widely watched by both genders but manly males. Also looking at the chart Action and Sci-Fi are both in the top 10 most liked by the audience. By mixing the two genres gives us an advantage over just picking one genre you are also being able to attract viewers that normally don't watch Sci-Fi films to watch because that usually like actions.
From this survey we can see that action and Thriller and action  are in the top most liked to watch. From this we can see that they are popular genre's and we have a large target audience to be aiming for this allows it appeal to more people. Rather than if will chose a more niche genre like 'Bollywood' who has a less populated following.

In this table we can find out our audience that we need to focus on the older male audience because they are the one who typically watch the genre so this makes us think we need to change our films direction more toward a mature story or topic's. The class that watch the different genres doesn't really matter because it is grouped close together.

In conclusion our target audience is mainly male but for action the main views are the older males under 35. 62% of them watch it but  this shows older people enjoy the more fast paced and intensive film. but on the other hand with Sci-Fi is watched more by the older male audience
